Meet The Pretsell Davies Thompson Benton Lawyers
 

Mike Pretsell

Michael Pretsell, Lawyer

Mike was born and raised in the Hamilton area and remains a diehard Tiger Cats fan. Following his six years of service with the Canadian Armed Forces, Mike completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Manitoba and his law degree at Queen’s University in 1994. Mike articled and worked as an associate at a local litigation firm until he found the predecessor to Pretsell Davies in 1999. Mike specializes in representing individuals and small business before the civil and criminal courts. He is the firm’s managing partner and senior trial counsel.

A part-time deputy judge of the Small Claim Court, Mike is also a Director of the Ontario Deputy Judge’s Association as well as the Belleville Hospital Foundation. Mike is the former chair of Ontario Trial Lawyers Association Long-Term Disability Section. A member of the American Association of Justice, the Hastings County and County of Carleton Law Association, and the Quinte Criminal Lawyers Association.

When Mike is not in the office he enjoys cooking, travelling, and golfing poorly. Mike lives in Belleville with his wife Joanne.

Kandace Davies

Kandace Davies, Lawyer

Kandace Davies is originally from Kingston, Ontario. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Ottawa in 1994 with degrees in Criminology and History. Kandace then travelled out west and attended law school at the University of Alberta. After getting engaged, she transferred to Queen's University and obtained her law degree in 1998. After articling in Belleville, Kandace was called to the Ontario Bar in 2000.

Kandace is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, Hastings County Law Association and has successfully argued cases before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Canada Pension Plan Disability tribunal (known as the Social Security Tribunal), the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT) and has extensive experience in Mediation and negotiation. When not working, Kandace is a chauffeur for her twins and can be found at the arena, soccer pitch or basketball court.   

David Little

David Little, Lawyer

David Little was raised in Waterloo, Ontario.  He graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University and from Western Law, and has practiced law since 1986.

On occasion David has been known to say “all I do is work.”  By this he means that he has devoted his legal career to workplace issues.  He is highly regarded for his knowledge and practice in all areas of employment law, including employment terminations, workplace injury, human rights, short and long term disability and disability pensions from the Canada Pension Plan.  He takes pride in finding practical and timely solutions to stressful workplace and disability issues.  He has represented clients in Federal Court, the Ontario courts, and before numerous boards and tribunals.

David lives in Belleville and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities and world travel.

Sheri Thompson

Sheri Thompson, Lawyer

Sheri is a Belleville native and has practiced law consistently in Belleville since returning here after completing her Bachelor of Art Honours degree in Geography and Political Science from Queen’s University and Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University. Sheri was called to the bar in 2004 and started her career in a local litigation firm before becoming a founding member of Thompson Benton. Sheri is excited to now be working with her Pretsell Davies colleagues.

Sheri’s areas of practice are primarily family law, real estate and wills and estate administration. Family law clients are often interacting with a lawyer at a time when their lives are in upheaval. Sheri brings to her clients an extensive knowledge of family law and a common sense approach to solving the issues arising from the breakdown of their relationships.

Sheri is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Hastings County Law Association. Sheri is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Foundation and is a past Chair of the Board of St. Mark’s United Church and past Vice-Chair of the Hastings County Law Association. Sheri serves on the Mediation Committee and the Education Committee for our local law association and is a repeat volunteer choreographer for Dancing with the Stars Quinte. Outside of the office Sheri enjoys teaching dance, travel, and spending time with her family and golden retriever.

Dagney Benton

Dagney Benton, Lawyer

Dagney was born and raised in Prince Edward County and is a proud “County” girl. She obtained her Bachelor of Engineering degree in Software Engineering from McMaster University and her Juris Doctor from Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dagney was called to the bar in 2008 and began her legal career in a boutique Intellectual Property firm in Ottawa prior to returning to the Quinte area. Dagney is a founding member of Thompson Benton and is pleased to join forces with her Pretsell Davies colleagues to continue to offer top-quality service to her clients.

Dagney’s practice covers a broad range of solicitor practice areas, including real estate, wills and estate administration, corporate and commercial. She splits her time between the Belleville and Picton offices. Dagney treats all her clients, whether their transactions are large or small, simple or complex, with a superior level of professionalism and service. She understands that the relationship with your solicitor should be a lifelong one.

Dagney is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Hastings County Law Association. She is a past Director of Community Development Council Quinte and current member of the fundraising team for the Children’s Foundation. When Dagney is away from the office she is a passionate participant in team sports. Between indoor soccer, outdoor soccer, ball hockey, baseball, golf etc. Dagney has a sport for every season.
